The scienceOS paper index is based on more than 220 million research papers from the Semantic Scholar index, along with 800 million full-text snippets and 2.4 billion reference pairs. When you ask a question, the answer is grounded in information like abstracts, titles, and other relevant data from these papers.

Neither user-generated inputs (e.g. your prompts or uploaded files), nor user-generated outputs (e.g. text answers or image files), nor other types of user data are used to train new scienceOS AI models.

When you upload a PDF to your scienceOS account, the PDF is not shared with other users and will only be accessible in your account.

You can upload any PDF with 120 pages or fewer and with a maximum file size of 32MB. Please note that the PDF upload function in scienceOS is optimized for research papers and similar documents.

Yes, you can use the AI science chat of scienceOS for free. Further, you can try our best model which includes chatting with multiple PDFs. After some use, you will automatically switch to our small model. With the small model, you can still use the AI science chat for free. To always use our best model and for unlimited access to all features, consider subscribing to our Angel plan.

You can subscribe to the scienceOS Angel plan for unlimited access to all features of the scienceOS AI research assistant. This includes: unlimited questions per chat, unlimited use of the multi-PDF chat, and unlimited use of our best model. Funds from Angel plan subscribers are only used to cover costs, develop new tools, and sustain the free plan.

When using scienceOS, it is important to uphold academic integrity. Some journals now require authors to disclose AI tools in the Methods section or equivalent. We recommend specifying how you used scienceOS – whether for editing, translation, or research – and including the version and link in your description (e.g., scienceOS (October 9 version), https://app.scienceOS.ai/chat). Including a transcript of your interactions as an appendix can further demonstrate your commitment to transparency.
